
Mars Hill falls to Anderson in SAC action
The Mars Hill softball team (21-16, 5-9 SAC) was swept by Anderson (25-17, 7-7 SAC) Thursday afternoon, dropping game one by a score of 9-1 and game two, 3-1.
ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (21-16, 5-9 SAC) was swept by Anderson (25-17, 7-7 SAC) Thursday afternoon, dropping game one by a score of 9-1 and game two, 3-1.
GAME ONE: AU 9, MHU 1
The Trojans used a six-run fifth inning to come away with their first victory of the day.
Mattie Hamilton began the scoring spree with a two-run single to center field to put the Trojans up 5-1. Following a Kayson Boatner RBI single, Abigail Webb's two-run double down the left field line extended the Trojan lead to seven. Meghan Majeski ended the contest with a RBI single that plated Webb.
Anderson broke the scoreless tie after two innings of play, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by Joshlyn Martin's RBI triple. The Lions cut into the lead in the top of the fourth as Ragan Broome drilled a solo home run over the left field wall.
In the bottom of the fourth, a RBI single from Hamilton reestablished the two-run lead for Anderson. Webb led all players with two hits and two RBI. Martin and Boatner also added two hits in the contest.
GAME TWO: AU 3, MHU 1
In a tightly contest affair, the Trojans were able to stave of the Lions long enough to hold on for their 25th win of the season, downing Mars Hill 3-1 to complete the sweep.
Mattie Hamilton drove in the first run of the game in the bottom of the first with a RBI single to left center field. Kayson Boatner doubled the Anderson lead in the bottom of the third with a RBI double.
Mars Hill cut the lead in half off of Ashley Evans' RBI single to left center field that plated Jordan Harris. Hamilton struck once again for the Trojans with her second RBI of the game, a single through the left side of the infield.
The Lions threatened in the top of the seventh with runners on first and third in the top of the seventh with two outs, but a groundout to third quelled the Lions' push.
Hamilton led all players with three hits in the contest, driving in two runs. Harlie Duncan picked up the win, allowing one run on three hits in the complete game win.
Mars Hill hosts Catawba on Saturday, April 13th on Senior Day. First pitch at Ponder Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
