HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter

After both teams exchanged possessions to start the day, the Saints used a 13-play, 85-yard drive to move ahead in the early going, 7-0. Patton carried the rock six times for 31 yards on the ground while Scott hauled in two catches for 23 yards, setting up a 1-yard TD plunge by Phillips with 3:37 remaining.

The Blue and Gold would then pull off a perfectly executed onside kick, but Limestone would give the ball right back on the next play as Phillips threw an interception along the sideline. The Cavs worked their way inside the red zone, but the defense held strong and forced the Cavs to miss a 30-yard field goal attempt.

Second Quarter

Limestone used another long drive to extend its margin to 14-0 as Phillips hit Brown for a 3-yard touchdown strike to cap a 14-play, 80-yard scoring jaunt. Brooks powered the drive with 39 all-purpose yards while Phillips hooked up with junior WR Cedric Smith (Columbia, S.C.) for a 12-yard gain.

Third Quarter

The Saints defensive unit got the Cavaliers off the field on two straight possessions to start the third, and the offense capitalized on their second drive of the quarter. Limestone moved the ball to UVa-Wise 32-yard line before the drive stalled, but Cook would nail a career-long 49-yard field goal to make it 17-0.

On the ensuing possession by UVa-Wise, Twigg created Limestone's first turnover of the day as his interception set the Blue and Gold up deep in Wise territory. A few plays later, Phillips scrambled for 15 yards down to the Cavalier 1 before putting Limestone on top, 24-0, with his second 1-yard TD of the day.

Fourth Quarter

Ogletree registered his third interception of the season to end a promising drive by the Cavaliers early in the fourth, but the Saints were unable to get out from the shadow of their own end zone following a 21-yard punt return. UVa-Wise broke up the shutout bid as a touchdown capped a 6-play, 36-yard drive.

The Saints again came up with a big play on defense, denying the two-point conversion attempt, before the special teams unit recovered the resulting onside kick. Limestone then moved the ball to the Cavaliers 20-yard line before Cook sealed the 27-6 decision by splitting the uprights from 42 yards away.

TURNING POINT

Limestone's defense stepped up big time in the first half, allowing the offense to create a 14-0 halftime lead. The Saints used two long drives over the first 30 minutes to put two touchdowns on the board and then sealed the program's first win in November with a touchdown and two field goals in the second half.
