
Lions drop both games versus LMU
The Mars Hill softball team (5-17, 2-8 SAC) hosted Lincoln Memorial (23-7, 6-2 SAC) in a conference double header at Ponder Field on Tuesday afternoon.

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill softball team (5-17, 2-8 SAC) hosted Lincoln Memorial (23-7, 6-2 SAC) in a conference double header at Ponder Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Game One
The Railsplitters held off the Lions in the first part of Tuesday's double header by a score of 6-2.
The Railsplitters plated a pair of runs in both of the first two innings of play due in part by an RBI double from Katie Tuggle and an RBI single from Kelsey Hoskins. The Railsplitters would go on to score two more in the top of the fourth inning from a McKenzie Henry single in the right-center gap.
The Lions would score two throughout the game, highlighted by a Sydney Craig solo homer over the center field wall in the bottom of the sixth.
Kayla Gallagher started for the Lions, throwing four innings and was given the loss. Emma Frost pitched a complete game for the Railsplitters, striking out 12 batters to earn her 13th win on the season.
Game Two
After Mars Hill jumped out to a four-run lead early, the Railsplitters battled back to defeat the Lions 14-5.
The Lions' four-run first inning was a pair of doubles coming from the bats of Alicia Wittenhagen and Marissa Adame and a sacrifice fly from Miranda Marks.
The Railsplitters responded by putting five runs on the board in the following inning due to doubles from Kelsie Tuggle and Sierra Hucklebee. A Railsplitter error in the bottom half of the second allowed the Lions to tie the game at five a piece.
The Railsplitters would go on to score nine unanswered runs to close out the game after five innings of play.
Marissa Adame started the game for the Lions, throwing 4.1 innings and striking out five, and was given the loss. Hayley Tamaro entered the game in relief for the Railsplitters, allowing only a single hit through four innings and earned her fifth win of the season.
The Lions are back in action on Saturday, as they travel to Hickory to face Lenior-Rhyne. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
