
Lions close out weekend sweep, down Cavs in three

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (12-8, 6-7 SAC) defeated UVA Wise (9-12, 2-11 SAC) in straight sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-16) Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Lions hit a match-high in the first set, dropping 15 kills with a .353 hitting percentage. They rolled the momentum over in the second, hitting .303 with 13 kills on 33 attempts.
The Lions' defense played a strong role in the final set of play, forcing nine Cavaliers errors, holding UVA Wise to a .000 hitting percentage as they completed the straight sets victory. Mars Hill recorded 14 kills and hit .200 in the final set.
Mars Hill hit .277 as a team with Katilyn Grant's .615 hitting percentage leading all players. Sher recorded eight kills along with Nikkayla Stewart and Brooke Hoffman. Jada Cannon led the team with 10 kills. Laela Jimenez led all players with 20 digs while Jordan Schmucker collected another double-double on the season with 33 assists and 11 digs.
The Lions wrap up their three-match homestand on Wednesday, November 1 when they host Carson-Newman. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
