Cobras Take Down UVA Wise in Four Sets on Saturday

WISE, Va. -  Coker University volleyball took down UVA Wise in four sets on Saturday (Mar. 27) in South Atlantic Conference action by a score of 3-1.

The Cobras took the opening set 25-14 and the second set 25-22, before dropping the third set 25-23 and winning the fourth set 25-9.

After playing to a 3-3 tie in the opening set, Coker jumped out to a 9-5 lead to force a UVA Wise timeout. The Cobras would cruise to the win in the opening set from there.

The Cobras fell behind early in the second set 10-5, before eventually rallying to tie the set at 18-18. The Cobras went on to win seven of the final 11 points in the set to go ahead 2-0 in the match.

The Cobras fell behind 8-5 in the third set, before rallying to take a 10-8 lead and force a UVA Wise timeout.  The Cavaliers would rally from there to take the third set.

Coker jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the fourth set to force a UVA Wise timeout, before increasing the lead to 13-2. Coker would cruise to the victory in the set from there to take the match.

Chelsey Blume paced the Cobras with a career-high 20 kills on the day, while Everton added 16. Six other Cobras recorded kills in the victory. Ashley Carson dished out a career-high 50 assists in the match, just five off the program's single-match record. Four others also registered assists in the win. Makayla Harris led the Cobras with 17 digs on the day, while Rami Mullen, Everton and Kay Hill each posted 10 digs as Everton completed the double-double. Seven others had digs in the match. Blume and Alyssa Lake each posted one solo block in the match, while Blume led Coker with five block assists. Six other Cobras helped in the blocking effort for Coker on the day.

The Cobras return home to host Catawba on Wednesday (Mar. 31) in South Atlantic Conference action. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
