The Mars Hill volleyball team (13-10, 7-9 SAC) was defeated in four sets (26-24, 18-25, 16-25, 21-25) by Catawba (10-10, 8-8 SAC) Saturday evening on the road.
SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (13-10, 7-9 SAC) was defeated in four sets (26-24, 18-25, 16-25, 21-25) by Catawba (10-10, 8-8 SAC) Saturday evening on the road.
Mars Hill took the first set, hitting a team-high .244 with 16 kills. Catawba hit .256, also with 16 kills in the first. They carried their offensive momentum over into the second, hitting a match-high .282 with 16 kills to even the match at one set apiece.
Nine Mars Hill errors helped lead the Indians to taking the third set. Both teams hit their lowest percentages in the match with Catawba hitting .103 to the Lions' -.083.
Catawba, in the fourth, knocked down another 16 kills en route to winning their third straight set of the match and their eighth conference win.
Brooke Hoffman led the Lions with 11 kills and hit .360 on the night. Katilyn Grant added 10 kills, hitting a match-high .588. Nikkayla Stewart led all players with five blocks (2 BS, 3 BA). Laela Jimenez led the Lions with 25 digs while Jordan Schmucker posted 36 assists and 16 digs for the double-double.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday, November 8 when they face Tusculum in their final road match of the season. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
