
Lions split SAC series with Limestone
Mars Hill shuts out Saints in game two to earn split.
GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (13-15, 4-6 SAC) split their Tuesday South Atlantic Conference series with Limestone (9-15, 4-6 SAC), dropping game one by a score of 3-1, but taking game two by a score of 2-0.
GAME ONE: LU 3, MHU 1
Limestone struck early, plating three runs in the first two innings, to take game one.
Leading 1-0 after the first, Taylor Jenkins built the Saints' lead to three with a two-run single.
After several scoreless innings, the Lions broke the shutout bid in the top of the seventh with a RBI single off the bat of Brooke Hanson, scoring Farley Park.
Park, Hanson, Maia Sholter, Daci Sarver, and Riley Waters recorded the Lions' five hits in the contest.
GAME TWO: MHU 2, LU 0
Blyth Freeman threw a complete game shutout for her fourth win of the season.
Freeman allowed just three hits while striking out five to salvage the split for Mars Hill.
The Lions plated both runs in the first inning. Brooke Hanson scored the game-winning run off of a Limestone wild pitch. Leah Grimes, later in the frame, added the insurance run with a RBI groundout to second that scored Maia Sholter.
Bri Weimer and Riley Waters led the Lions with two hits a piece. Mars Hill was walked 10 times in the contest with Farley Park's three leading the way.
Mars Hill returns home on Thursday, March 20 when they host Converse in non-conference action. First pitch at Ponder Field is set for 1 p.m.
