Cobras Fall to Trojans in Weekend Series

Hartsville, SC - The Coker University Baseball Team fell short to Anderson in a mid-season conference series.

Game One:

Anderson went up early in the first game against Coker, three runs crossing home plate in the top of the first inning. Depsite getting runners on base and making good offensive plays, the Cobras were unable to bring anyone home. Anderson continued to score runs in the top of the second and third inning, taking their lead up seven. It wasn't until the bottom of the seventh that Coker was able to bring in their first run of the game, a homerun by Adam Wilkerson. That would also be Wilkerson's first homerun of the season and the Cobras fourth overall. In answer, the Trojans scored one more run, home plate crossed by Kevin Sosa. Coker continued to put up a fight, Ryan Santoietro doubling and bringing Donavan Frayer home for their second run. Unfortunately, that was the last run scored of the first game and the Cobras ended at a score of 8-2.

Of the 35 at bats, Coker had 11 hits and two RBI's. Donavan Frayer and Ryan Santopietro both hit a double throughout the game, while Jacob Yarberry and Adam Wilkerson each had a sacrifice bunt.

Garrett Dunn (14), Reid Watkins (15), and Collin Breland (17) each pitched during the first game.

Game Two:

Starting off the second game, the Trojans began on top once again with a 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Despite a quick lead by Anderson, Nick Leonard answered readily with a homerun. This brought Anderson's lead down to four in the bottom of the first inning. It wasn't until the bottom of the third inning that another run was scored, Caleb McCants crossing home plate, bringing the score to 5-2. Although strong attempts by Coker to bring more runners home, they were unsuccessful and the game finished at a score of 7-2 as Anderson brought in two more runs.

Of the 24 at bats, Coker claimed five hits and one RBI (Nick Leonard). Caleb McCants, Landon Reeves, and Ryan Santopietro would all register a SAC bunts for the game. Cameron Ferrell was the only Cobra to steal a base during the second game.

Jacob Hardy (27) and Britton Adams (11) would face a total of 38 batters. Jacob Hardy had four strike-outs while Britton Adams had one.

The Cobras will be returning to the mound on Tuesday (March 14th) against Francis Marion. The first pitch will be thrown at 6:00 PM. Live stats and streaming will be available at www.cokercobras.com
