
Mars Hill splits final day of Bobcat Battle
The Mars Hill softball team (5-6) split their final day of the Bobcat Battle, defeating Converse (2-8) by a score of 3-0, but falling to Georgia College (9-3) by a score of 9-1.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Mars Hill softball team (5-6) split their final day of the Bobcat Battle, defeating Converse (2-8) by a score of 3-0, but falling to Georgia College (9-3) by a score of 9-1.
GAME ONE: MHU 3, CON 0
Mars Hill swept their two-game series with Converse, defeating the Valkyries 3-0 Sunday afternoon.
Micki Maxson's two-run single opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, plating Farley Park and Miranda Marks.
In the bottom of sixth, the Lions added an insurance run off of Zoie Pistel's RBI triple to right.
Maxson and Ayellad Howard led their respective teams with two hits apiece.
Kristyn Ezzo picked up her first win of the season, striking out 11 for the complete game victory.
GAME TWO: GC 9, MHU 1 (6 Innings)
The Lions were defeated in their final game of the Bobcat Battle, falling to Georgia College by a score of 9-1.
The Bobcats plated four in the first inning and tacked on two more runs in the second off of a Kam Caldwell two-run single to center.
In the bottom of the fourth, Caldwell picked up her third RBI of the game with a triple to right center.
Katie Todd broke the shutout bid with a RBI single to right in the top of the fifth, plating Zoie Pistel.
Georgia College added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth off of a Emily Hobbs RBI double. She was later scored off of a Katelyn Hobbs' RBI single.
Caldwell led all players with three hits and two RBI. Emily Hobbs added two hits. Jessica Senn led the Lions with two hits.
Shelby Jones picked up her fifth win of the season, striking out seven in six innings and allowing one run on five hits.
The Lions open South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday, February 22 when they take on Carson-Newman. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
