Women's Lacrosse drops against Newberry
Kate Halcro and Mia MacMillan got on the scoresheet as the Cobras fell to Newberry at home.
Hartsville, SC: The Cobras welcomed the Newberry Wolves to the Coker Athletic Field tonight. The Wolves came out on top in this one as they outscored the Cobras 23-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1ST PERIOD:
- Olivia Schmidt was a brick wall in net during this period. After facing 8 shots, she kept the Wolves to only 3 goals.
- The Cobras put immense pressure on the Wolves' attack as they forced Newberry to throw the ball away 6 times in this period.
- At the end of the first period, the Wolves led 3 goals to 0.
2ND PERIOD:
- The Cobras came out hot after the 1st break of the game as Mia MacMillan ran around the cage to blaze a shot right over the keeper's head to bring the Cobras within 2 of the Wolves.
- After a 5-goal run by the Wolves, Mia MacMillan found the net once again. MacMillan started her solo run 30 yards out from the cage. She juked out her defender and ran straight to the cage uncontested as she slotted the ball home.
- With a little under 4 minutes to play, the Coker marksmen in attack, Kate Halcro, put her name in the scorebook. After a beautiful reverse pass from Kaiya Sabur that took the keeper out of the play, Halcro shot the ball into an open net to bring the score to 8-2.
- 2 minutes later, Halcro found the net once again. After a cutting run in front of the cage, Kaitlyn Mulligan found Halcro's run as she sent the ball into the far post to bring her tally up to 2 on the day.
- Olvia Schmidt had 7 saves in this period to finish out her day in the cage.
- Going into the halftime break, the Cobras were down 10-4.
3RD PERIOD:
- The Wolves started hot in the 3rd period as they took an 11-goal lead.
- Kate Halcro found the net for her 3rd of the day with just over 7 minutes left to play in the 3rd period. Kaiya Sabur once again was able to find Halcro in acres of space in front of the cage as Kate Halcro completed her hat-trick on the day.
- The Wolves scored 2 more goals to finish out the period to make the score 17-5 in favor of the visitors going into the final period of the game.
4TH PERIOD:
- To start the 4th period, the Cobras and the Wolves traded shot for shot.
- Kate Halcro scored her 4th goal of the contest. Kaitlyn Mulligan got her second assist of the day. Halcro once again made a cutting run across the stage as Mulligan found a beautiful pass to set Halcro up to send the ball into the bottom corner of the net to finish off the scoring for the Cobras on the day.
- The final score after the 4th period was 23-6 in favor of the visiting Newberry Wolves.
