MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team was swept by Wingate over the weekend in South Atlantic Conference play.
GAME ONE: WU 17, MHU 3 - 7 Innings
Mars Hill (5-16, 1-6 SAC) suffered a 17-3 loss to Wingate (6-9, 3-4 SAC) in a one-sided conference matchup at Henderson Field. Wingate's offense exploded for 14 hits and 17 runs, capitalizing on two Mars Hill errors and nine walks.
The Bulldogs took control early, scoring in the first, third, and fourth innings, including a six-run fourth that put the game out of reach. Eli Weisner led the charge with a home run and three RBIs, while Cam Harris drove in five runs. Kelan Hoover (1-2) earned the win, striking out nine over six innings, while Dylan Vega (1-3) took the loss, allowing 11 runs (seven earned) in four innings.
Mars Hill's offense struggled, managing only three runs on eight hits, with Davis Anders and Alejandro Aguilar each driving in a run.
GAME TWO: WU 13, MHU 0 - 7 Innings
Wingate won the series with a one-hit shutout in game two to open Saturday's doubleheader.
Sean Sullivan hit two home runs and drove in four to lead Wingate to a 13-0 shutout. Collin McDougall (3-1) dominated, throwing a one-hit complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts.
GAME THREE: WU 1, MHU 0
Wingate edged out a 1-0 win behind Jake Courville's RBI double in the fifth. Chad Harvey (1-0) earned the win, pitching five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, while Brennan Williams (2-3) took the loss, throwing a complete game with one earned run.
The Lions take to the road on Tuesday, March 11 when they face Young Harris in non-conference play. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
