Lady Indians Fall in League Opener at Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman topped visiting Catawba in four sets in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Holt Fieldhouse. The Eagles improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the SAC with a 23-25, 25-17, 25-18 and 25-16 victory. The Catawba fall to 2-4 and 0-1.

Catawba got a dozen kills each from Allison Bryant, Raytchelle Miranda and Ashley Johnson in the loss. Miranda killed off the final point to earn the win in the opening set for the Lady Indians.

Johnson added six blocks for Catawba. Payton Medich handed out 29 asists and provided 10 digs. Libero Morgan Childress also had 10 digs.

Erin Edwards led Carson-Newman with 17 kills and five blocks. Taylor Keeran posted seven blocks with eight kills. Setter Abbey Hildebrand posted 40 assists with three aces and 10 digs.

Catawba will face off against Lincoln Memorial on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Harrogate, Tenn.
