
EMORY, Va. – The University of Montevallo Men's Lacrosse Team (3-0) put up 12 first-period goals on its way to a non-conference victory over Emory & Henry University (0-2) inside the Food City Sports Complex Friday afternoon. The Wasps battled throughout the match, but fell by a 27-4 final score.

How It Happened
- The Falcons scored early and often to begin the match as they ran out to an 11-0 lead through the opening 11 and a half minutes of play. The Wasps broke through with 2:30 remaining in the period when freshman attacker Collin Shell (Blountville, Tenn.) dodged a defender and buried a shot past the Montevallo goalie to get E&H on the board. Montevallo would add one more score to take a 12-1 margin into the second stanza.
- UM tallied the first goal of the second frame, but E&H quickly responded at the 11:37 mark when freshman midfielder Caleb Mims (Kingsport, Tenn.) scooped up a ground ball, successfully cleared the ball on his own and beat the Falcons' goalie to reduce the deficit to 13-2. Montevallo added five more goals to lead 18-2 heading into the halftime break.
- After three Falcon goals to begin the second half, freshman attacker Dakotah Hawkins (Roanoke, Va.) recorded his third goal of the season as he netted an unassisted score to get the Wasps back on the board at 21-3. UM posted three more goals and the score stood at 24-3 after three periods of play.
- Montevallo put three more tallies on the scoreboard to begin the final period, but the Wasps broke up the run with a goal of their own. Freshman midfielder David Mewes (Greenville, S.C.) received a pass from freshman midfielder Gabe Carter (Kingsport, Tenn.) and beat the goalie to run the score to its final at 27-4.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Shell went for a goal with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while Carter had an assist and four ground balls. Mims contributed one goal, three ground balls and forced a pair of turnovers.
- Freshman defender Isaiah Ward (Fredericksburg, Va.) caused a team-high three turnovers and scooped up a ground ball while fellow freshman defender Kyle Dyott (Easton, Md.) posted three ground balls and forced a pair of turnovers.
- Freshman goalie Julian Pantoja (Roanoke, Va.) made 17 saves and picked up three ground balls in goal.
Montevallo Individual Leaders
- John Spaans went for a match-high four goals and a ground ball while Jonah Brooking added three goals, five ground balls and caused a turnover.
- Jetty Miller had a pair of goals to go along with a pair of assists and a caused turnover. Devin Virk, Adam Bryant, Jacob Obee and Matthew Boas all registered a pair of goals for the Falcons in the win.
- Alex Egorshin and Carson Brown combined for four saves, with Egorshin earning the win.
