ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (4-12, 0-3 SAC) was defeated by Anderson (8-5, 3-3 SAC) in both games Saturday afternoon, falling by scores of 6-2 and 4-3.
GAME ONE: AU 6, MHU 2
The Trojans led 2-0 after the first as Ben Bullard drove in two with a single to center. Following four scoreless innings, Anderson extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth with Mac Ketchin's solo home run.
The Lions clawed to within one in the top of the seventh, highlighted by Dawson Anderson's RBI single that plated Terick Bumgarner. Caleb Smith, later in the frame, scored on a wild pitch.
Anderson, in the bottom of the eighth, tacked on three more insurance runs to win the series.
Ketchin led all players with three hits. Anderson, Elec Yount, Carter Potts, and Peyton Starkey recorded the Lions' four hits in the contest.
Walker Noland threw six scoreless innings, striking out six for the win. Nate Crissey allowed two runs on two hits in 1.2 innings, suffering the loss. In relief effort, Quentin Graves a solid 4.1 innings, allowing just one run on three hits.
GAME TWO: AU 4, MHU 3
Trailing 1-0 heading into the top of the third, the Lions took the lead, plating three. Carter Potts' RBI single opened the scoring for Mars Hill in the stanza. Later in the frame, Walker Fox tripled to right field, plating both Potts and Elec Yount to go up three-one.
As he did in game one, Anderson's Ben Bullard posted his second two-run single of the day to tie the game in the bottom of the third.
In the bottom of the fifth, Gray Wells' blast over the left center field fence proved to be the difference maker, putting the Trojans up 4-3.
Jackson Jones and Evan Grant led all players with three hits apiece while Fox led the Lions with two RBI.
Joshua Legnard struck out six in 6.0 innings thrown, allowing three runs on nine hits for the win. Brennan Williams was tagged with the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits in 6.0 innings while striking out six.
The Lions return home on Friday, February 28 when they open up their first South Atlantic Conference series at home this season, welcoming Catawba. First pitch at Don Henderson Field is set for 2 p.m.
