ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (2-1, 2-1 SAC) was swept Tuesday evening, 3-0, versus Anderson (2-2, 2-2 SAC) on the road.
After going up 3-0 in the first set, Anderson rallied to score the next five points. The Lions tied it at five and later in the frame, retook the lead, 10-9, in the middle of a 6-1 run. Mars Hill, following a kill from Kelly Jakaitis, built their lead to 16-12 and maintained the four-point advantage until the 18-14 mark.
The Trojans reeled off five straight points with two kills from Noelle Knutsen during that span. A Trojans' error tied the game at 19, however, Anderson took six of the last nine points in the frame to go up 1-0.
Tied at six in the second set, Anderson went off on a 12-2 run to lead by as many as 11. Regan Duty had four kills in the run followed by Maya Learmonth's three. Anderson hit a game-high .364 in the frame, committing only four errors on 33 attempts.
Mars Hill, like they did in the previous two sets, took the early lead in the set. They led 16-12 off of a Sarah Goddard kill, but once again, momentum swayed to Anderson after a Duty kill cut the deficit to three. They would go on a 4-0 run to tie at 17.
There would be six ties and seven lead changes in the final moments of the match. Following a kill from Grace Lilly, Anderson was able to take the final two points of the set and complete the sweep.
Tabitha Wheeler led all players with 15 kills while Duty and Learmonth added 12 kills apiece. Madison Roy led all players with 47 assists and chipped in with 10 digs.
Lilly led the Lions with 12 kills, hitting .385 on the night. Goddard added 10 kills and five digs while Sara Pasour collected 17 assists.
