Trojans Overcome First Half Goal to Defeat Railspitters; 3-1

Anderson, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer earned a huge home win over South Atlantic Conference opponent Lincoln Memorial, defeating the Railsplitters, 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Legacy Early College Stadium.

With the triumph, the Trojans improve to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in conference aciton, while the Railsplitters fall to 9-4 overall and 3-4 in SAC play.

LMU's lone goal came with just under two minutes left in the first half of action. Maria Hernandez chipped a short shot that deflected past the keeper, giving the Railsplitters the early lead.

Anderson remained patient in its attack, resulting in three second half goals. Senior Bethany Morgan scored twice, once in the 57th minute and then the game-winner in the 72nd minute.

Junior Gabbie Fleming added an insurance goal in the 78th minute after beating the defender and placing the ball in the lower far corner.

Lincoln Memorial outshot the Black and Gold 13 (6) – 10 (7), while claiming the corner kick edge, 6-1.

"It's fantastic to get a result that reflects our hard work and performance, said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "I am very proud of how the girls responded in the second half after conceding right before half time. It shows great character and belief. This is a good win for us going into a tough stretch of conference play!"

Anderson will travel to nonconference opponent Erskine on Wednesday. Kick-off is slated for 5 p.m.
