Anderson, S.C. – The Anderson University Softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over UVA Wise to open SAC play, winning game one, 5-2, and winning the game two 9-3, on Thursday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex. The Trojans move to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Cavaliers fall to 1-6-1 overall and 0-4 in SAC action.
"Very fortunate to win both games to start conference play, said head coach Tommy Hewitt. "Kayson Boatner really came thru for us in the second game to give us the lead and we never looked back."
Game 1 Summary
Anderson 5 UVA Wise 2
The Trojans held a 3-0 lead through four innings of play with UVA Wise crossing the plate twice in the top half of the fifth inning to cut into the lead, 3-2. Anderson answered back with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning to push the lead to, 5-2, setting the final score. Senior Harlie Duncan (5-0) pitched the complete game, giving up six hit and striking out nine batters.

Game 2 Summary
Anderson 9 UVA Wise 3
The Cavaliers were cruising along with a 3-1 lead after three and a half complete innings. Anderson broke the game open scoring five runs in the fourth inning. The surge was sparked by Boatner's three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth a two-run blast in the bottom of the fifth inning. Freshman Laken Maxwell (5-1) gave up four hits while striking out seven batters to earn her fifth win of the season.
