
Lions open season with win over Benedict
Kory Davis leads Lions with 18 points in season-opener.
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (1-0) defeated Benedict (0-3) by a score of 56-54 Friday evening on the road in their season-opener.
The teams were tied at 26 after the first 20 minutes of play. Kory Davis led the Lions with nine points in the half, followed by five from Kadyn Dawkins. Blair Crutcher led the team with six rebounds.
Davis once again led the Lions with nine points in the second half as the duo of Daniel Mayfield and Dinari Boykin each added seven apiece as the Lions shot just under 37 percent from the floor. Mayfield and Boykin led the Lions with five rebounds in the half.
Davis led the Lions with 18 points and four assists followed by Mayfield's nine. Both Mayfield and Crutcher led Mars Hill with seven rebounds apiece. Dawkins led the team with three steals.
Mars Hill opens their home slate on Monday, November 18 when they host Erskine. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
