Lions split Saturday DH with No. 11 Catawba
Lions rally in game two, score three unanswered for first SAC win of season.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (5-14, 1-5 SAC) split with No. 11 Catawba (14-5, 7-2 SAC), dropping game one by a score of 17-5 in seven innings, but taking game two by a score of 3-2.
GAME ONE: CAT 17, MHU 5 - 7 Innings
Catawba used back-to-back six run innings early on to run away with game two of the series, clinching the series win.
The trio of Elec Yount, Walker Fox, and Max LaLime led the Lions with two hits apiece while Terick Bumgarner led the Lions with two RBI.
GAME TWO: MHU 3, CAT 2
Mars Hill scored three unanswered late in game two to pick up their first South Atlantic Conference win of the year.
In the bottom of the fifth, Peyton Starkey put the Lions on the board with a solo home run to left field. Terick Bumgarner's RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at two.
Later in the sixth, Bumgarner scored off of a Catawba error, proving to be the game-winning run.
Starkey and Dawson Anderson led the Lions with two hits apiece.
Brennan Williams threw the complete game for his second win of the season, striking out eight and allowing just two runs on four hits.
Mars Hill returns to Henderson Field on Tuesday, March 4 when they host Young Harris in non-conference play. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
