HOW IT HAPPENED

Innings 1-3

Following a scoreless opening frame, the Saints broke through with the go-ahead score in the top of the second after senior Chase Allen (Sharpsburg, Ga.) worked a one-out walk. With runners on first and second a few batters later, Towle staked the Blue and Gold to a 1-0 lead with an RBI double.

Limestone used a two-out rally in the top of the third, sparked by a triple from Creps, to plate four runs in the frame. After back-to-back walks loaded the bags, Huber cleared the bases with a booming double before he came around to score on a passed ball two batters later to give the Saints a 5-0 cushion.

Innings 4-6

The visitors would use more two-out magic in the top of the fifth as Huber got onboard with a two-out single before being chased home on a double to deep center by Cornell. Queens would break up the shutout bid in the home half of the fifth, but the Saints put the game away with a three-spot in the sixth.

Whetsell laced a one-out double before he came around to score on an RBI base knock by Evans, making it a 7-1 game. Creps then launched a two-run shot over the rightfield fence of Intimidators Stadium – his first of the year – as Limestone extended the margin to 9-1 heading into the final stretch.

Innings 7-9

The Royals were able to scratch three runs across in the bottom of the seventh, trimming the lead to 9-4, but junior Michael Sholtis (Greer, S.C.) and senior Eric Mullinax (Greenville, S.C.) combined to toss scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, as Limestone collected the road decision.

TURNING POINT

With two outs and the bases full of Saints in the top of the third, Huber delivered a bases-clearing double before scoring himself on a passed ball to give the home team a 5-0 advantage. Limestone would add four more runs in the middle innings to build up a 9-1 lead through six full innings.
