Goddard records 16 kills in season finale versus Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (14-13, 11-9 SAC) was defeated in four sets by Lincoln Memorial (10-17, 9-11 SAC) Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 14-13 in the first set, the Lions were able to take five of the following six points to hold an 18-15 lead late in the frame. The Railsplitters responded with a 6-1 run to lead by two before Mars Hill closed out the frame on a 6-1 run of their own, highlighted by four Lincoln Memorial attack errors.
The Railsplitters took the final three sets, beginning with a clinical second set win by a score of 25-16. Hitting .306 and forcing seven Lions' attack errors, the Railsplitters evened the contest at one set apiece. The Railsplitters, midway through the frame, went on a 7-2 run to hold an eight point lead.
The third set saw the Lions hold an 11-9 lead before a 4-0 run from Lincoln Memorial turned the tides momentarily. Two LMU errors resulted in a 13-13 tied, but the Railsplitters responded by taking four of the following five points to lead 17-14 in the latter stages of the set. Lincoln Memorial maintained the lead for the remainder of the frame to go up 2-1 entering the fourth.
A back-and-forth affair in the final set of the contest saw the teams tied at 19 late in the contest. The Lions eventually earned two match points, but three straight kills from the Railsplitters provided them a 25-24 advantage. Sara Pasour's kill tied the game up at 25, however, a service error and game-clinching kill from Yileen Ng He sealed the victory for Lincoln Memorial and the season split.
Ng He ended the contest with 14 kills and six digs while Rylee Storms and Lindsey Nartker led the team with 16 kills apiece. Emily Walter recorded 52 assists.
Sarah Goddard led the Lions with 16 kills and added nine digs. Lauren Phillips followed with 10 kills and collected 12 digs for the double-double. Pasour recorded 17 assists and seven digs while Ully Martins led the Lions with 24 digs. Sally Anne Johnson notched six blocks.
The Lions return to Chambers Gymnasium on Friday, November 15 as they host Wingate at 7 p.m.
