
Mars Hill wraps up road slate versus Tusculum
The Mars Hill volleyball team (13-11, 7-10 SAC) was defeated in three sets (26-28, 17-25, 26-28) by Tusculum (19-6, 15-3 SAC) Wednesday night on the road.
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (13-11, 7-10 SAC) was defeated in three sets (26-28, 17-25, 26-28) by Tusculum (19-6, 15-3 SAC) Wednesday night on the road.
Despite the Lions hitting a team-high .245 in the first set, a late Pioneers rally allowed them to steal the first set. Both teams recorded their highest kill totals in a set with Tusculum posting 19 and the Lions with 18, respectively.
The Pioneers hit a match-high .360 in the second, potting 13 kills on 25 attempts. Their defense held the Lions to a .000 hitting percentage as the Lions recorded eight kills and eight errors on 27 attempts.
In another back-and-forth affair in the third, Tusculum once again emerged victorious, completing the straight sets victory. They hit .268 in the frame with 17 kills while Mars Hill also recorded 17 kills, hitting .209 in the final set.
Jada Cannon led the Lions with 14 kills followed by Katilyn Grant's 10 on the night. Grant led all players, hitting .588 on the night. Laela Jimenez led the Lions with 14 digs and two aces while Jordan Schmucker added a team-high 32 assists, eight digs, and five kills.
Mars Hill closes out the regular season on Saturday, November 11 when they host Newberry. The Senior Day season finale will see a first serve set for 5 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
