
Lions sweep Erskine on road

DUE WEST, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (17-18) swept Erskine (17-10) by scores of 6-0 and 11-3 Thursday afternoon on the road in non-conference play.
GAME ONE: MHU 6, EC 0
Mars Hill controlled game one, allowing just one hit in their game one win.
After two scoreless innings, Ella Brooks opened the scoring with a RBI groundout that scored Alyssa Poston.
Mars Hill opened up the scoring in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs all off of home runs. Brooks collected her third RBI of the game with a two-run home run. Miranda Marks followed with a solo shot and later in the frame, Farley Park hit the Lions' second two-run home run of the inning.
Brooks led all players with three hits and three RBI followed by two apiece from Park and Maia Sholter.
Poston threw a gem of a game, allowing just one hit while striking out 11 for her sixth win of the season.
GAME TWO: MHU 11, EC 3 (6 Innings)
Mars Hill used a seven-run fourth inning en route to their Thursday sweep.
The Lions led 3-1 after the first inning, highlighted by Farley Park's RBI single up the middle.
In the fourth, Miranda Marks hit her second home run of the day, a three-run blast. Farley Park followed with a solo home run, her second of the day and later in the frame, Meghan Murphy powered her second home run of the season, a two-run shot that saw the Lions lead 9-1. Abby Gatch added to the scoring parade with a RBI single that plated Amber McLaren.
The Flying Fleet plated one run in both the fourth and fifth innings to cut the deficit to seven. An Erskine error allowed Maia Sholter to score in the top of the sixth, providing the Lions the eight-run advantage.
Park, McLaren, Gatch, and Kendall Bowers led the Lions with two hits apiece. Marks and Murphy led all players with three RBI.
Rebekah Howard earned her fourth win of the season, allowing three runs on 11 hits while striking out seven.
Mars Hill returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday, April 12 when they face Limestone on the road. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
