Mars Hill defeats Wingate, 92-85
Kadyn Dawkins' 25 points leads Lions to first win of 2025.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (5-9, 3-9 SAC) defeated Wingate (6-7, 4-6 SAC) by a score of 92-85 Sunday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium.
Mars Hill shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, leading the Bulldogs by three entering the half, 35-32. Both Kadyn Dawkins and Dinari Boykin netted seven points for the Lions while Donovan McIntosh added five off the bench. Marvin Hires pulled down five rebounds while Kory Davis led all players with three assists.
Kendall Taylor led all players with 17 points in the half.
In the second, a late Wingate push was held off by the Lions, sinking clutch free throws to secure their first win in their last 10 games. Taylor led all players with 22 points. Dawkins led the Lions with 18 points, hitting three threes. Boykin added 12 points while Hires added nine points.
The Lions shot just over 48 percent from the floor and hit 10 threes in the contest. Mars Hill outrebounded the Bulldogs 46-30. Dawkins led all Lions with 25 followed by 19 from Boykin. Hires collected the double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Davis led the team with four assists, chipping in nine points.
Mars Hill takes to the road on Wednesday, January 15 when they face Emory & Henry. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
