Coker Sweeps Belmont Abbey on Tuesday Night

Hartsville, SC - Coker University was able to complete the two game sweep against Belmont Abbey College on Tuesday afternoon. Both games ended with only a one run difference, but The Cobras proved to be the better team. 

Game 1 (5-4)

Belmont Abbey took the lead early with two runs in the first inning and three runs in the third. The Cobras were able to fight back and by the end of the fourth inning had tied the game 3-3 with an RBI from Julie Hilliard and a two run homerun from Kelsey Gollie. After three scoreless innings, Coker went into an eighth inning with the Crusaders. Jenae Fedewa started the extra inning off strong, allowing only one run. The Cobras came out swinging with a single RBI from Julie Hilliard, scoring Kayla Oswell and a double RBI from Kelsey Gollie scoring Julie Hilliard.    

Chloe Pelham had one double and Julie Hilliard had two doubles. Kelsey Gollie ended Game 1 with one double, two RBIs, and one homerun. Delaney Eaves earned a sacrifice bunt. Ariana Fair was the only Cobra to have any stolen bases on the day with two in Game 1. 

Jenae Fedewa pitched all eight innings with 65 strikes thrown out of 111 pitches. Fedewa had 6 strikeouts out of the 35 batters faced. 

Game 2 (10-9) 

Coker started the second game off strong, scoring two runs from a homerun by Chloe Pelham that enabled Ari Fair to cross home plate. After only allowing one run from the Crusaders in the top of the first, Belmont Abbey was able to score a tying run (2-2)  in the second inning and take the lead over The Cobras in the third inning after Coker had no runs in the bottom of the third. Julie Hilliard was successful in her attempt to get it going again for her team with a single to left field, resulting in Chloe Pelham reaching home plate. Coker's bats started heating up in the bottom of the fifth inning (RBIs from Carter Freeman, Kelsi Scott, Brooklyn Stueness, Ari Fair). The Cobra defense prevented any runs in the top of the sixth inning, while Julie Hilliard and Kelsi Scott hit an RBI each to score two runs. Coker University won the game after allowing only one run from the Crusaders in the 7th inning. 

Brooklyn Stueness, Ariana Fair, Kayla Oswell, and Hannah Davis each had a double. Chloe Pelham had one double, one triple, one homerun, and two RBIs. 

Tibby Hessian pitched 2.2 innings (52-31) and had one strikeout. Cecelia Hogel pitched 2.1 innings (25-19). Hannah Fisher pitched 2 innings (49-28) and struckout 5 batters.
