
Second Consecutive Victory Earned By Spartans Over Wingate
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team clobbered the ball en route to their second consecutive victory over Wingate in the final game of the Old Coast Classic.

All-Time Series: Yesterday's contest was the first-ever meeting between the two programs; the Spartans secured the 4-3 victory in Saint Augustine, Fla.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 1ST | Cristina Clauberg reached base via hit-by-pitch. Corynn Miner recorded the first hit of the game with a laser up the middle. Clauberg made a smart baserunning decision and advanced to third base on the Miner liner. In the following at-bat, Mariah Galhouse scorched the offering through the left-side and scored Clauberg from third. With two runners on, Maddie Farrell reached on a throwing error by the third baseman. The Bulldogs' fielding mistake allowed Miner to score from second base, while Galhouse advanced to third. Bailey Phillips continued her hot-streak with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead for UT. || UT 3, WU 0
TOP 3RD | With two outs, Farrell battled deep in the count and won the at-bat with a line drive up the middle. Phillips increased the lead for Tampa with a two-run blast to deep center field. The homer was the second in the last two days for the junior. || UT 5, WU 0
BOT 3RD | Wingate's Haley Cashwell singled up the middle and advanced to second on an Aubrey Reep single. With two runners on, Jordan Floyd laced a single through the left side to put the Bulldogs on the board. || UT 5, WU 1
TOP 4TH | To lead off the inning, Emily Proffitt lined a double down the left field line. Proffitt has begun the year with four hits in eight at-bats. Emalee Jansen laid down a sacrifice bunt, however the Spartans' first basemen reached on an error and advanced to second. The error allowed Proffitt to score from second base. In the next at-bat, Stephanie Balmer moved Jansen to third on a grounder to the right-side. With one out, Clauberg used a sacrifice fly to drive in the seventh run of the game for UT. || UT 7, WU 1
BOT 4TH | The Bulldogs' didn't back down as Alyssa Hall led off the inning with a single up the middle. Gracyn Polk followed up with an infield single. Leslie McNeil advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. With two runners in scoring position, Emma Swenson tripled down the left field line to chip away at the Spartans' lead. || UT 7, WU 3
TOP 7TH | Sam Kaye came into relief in the circle, but made her presence felt offensively. Kaye appeared at the plate for the first time this season and hit a solo shot to deep center field. The home run was the first career HR for the senior. || UT 8, WU 3
BOT 7TH | The Bulldogs' Swenson singled to begin the inning. Cashwell reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a single from Reep. Jordan Floyd added another run for Wingate with a base hit to right field. || UT 8, WU 4
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Mariah Galhouse made her fourth start in the circle for UT; the freshman right-hander completed four innings, struck out five batters, and allowed one earned run on eight hits.
- Sam Kaye came into relief for three innings and struck out one while allowing one run on three hits. Kaye gave herself run support with her first career HR in the seventh.
- Emalee Jansen logged her first double of the year in the second inning.
- Maddie Farrell reached base in all four at-bats, as the senior catcher led the team with two hits. Additionally, Farrell reached on an error and a free-pass.
- Wingate's Jordan Floyd and Emma Swenson logged three hits each and two RBI a piece in the final game of the Old Coast Classic.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Tampa clubbed multiple home runs in consecutive games for the first time since April 22, 2011.
- The Spartans scored in the first inning for the second consecutive game.
- Bailey Phillips connected on her second home run in the last two games; Phillips has matched her career total in HR's this weekend.
- Phillips drove in three runs this afternoon; 3 RBI in the most by a Spartan this season.
- UT has committed at least one error in every game this season.
UP NEXT: Tampa will travel to Palm Beach next weekend to take on the Sailfish of PBA; the series will begin Friday at 6:00 p.m. with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:00 p.m.
