AIKEN, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (0-1) opened their 2025 season on the road at USC Aiken (1-0) Friday afternoon, falling by a score of 18-3.
The Pacers led by five after the first inning of play. Over the next four innings, they tacked on four more runs, leading 9-0 heading into the top of the sixth.
Mars Hill broke the shutout bid in the sixth, plating three runs. Jackson Jones opened the scoring with a RBI double to right field. Following an RBI groundout off the bat of Carter Potts, Max LaLime brought Jones home for the Lions' third run of the inning.
USC Aiken responded with nine unanswered runs from the bottom of the sixth through the eighth.
Capers Molinaroli went a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate with two doubles, a home run, and five RBI.
Terick Bumgarner led the Lions with two hits on the day while the trio of Jones, Potts, and LaLime each picked up an RBI.
The Lions continue their weekend series with the Pacers on Saturday, February 1. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
