
Dawkins nets 1,000th career points versus Wasps
Dawkins becomes 30th member of MHU's 1000 career point club.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (4-6, 2-6 SAC) was defeated by Emory & Henry (3-7, 1-5 SAC) by a score of 79-73 Saturday afternoon in their final home game of 2024.
Senior guard Kadyn Dawkins scored eight first half points, joining the 1,000 career point club. After hitting a driving layup and drawing a foul with less than 40 seconds to play in the first, Dawkins hit the free throw, converting the three-point play and securing his place in the Mars Hill record books.
The Wasps carried a 37-24 advantage into the second half, led by Draven Pilson's 14 points. He went 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Dawkins led the Lions with eight points in the half followed by four apiece from Kory Davis and Juan Pedro Rodriguez.
The Lions roared back late in the second half, pulling within four several times in the final couple of minutes, but the Wasps hit clutch free throws down the stretch to hold off the charging Lions. Davis led all players with 15 points in the half followed by 11 from Donovan McIntosh and 10 from Marvin Hires. McIntosh led the Lions with five rebounds in the final 20 minutes while Dawkins assisted on four baskets and led all players with four steals.
Davis led Mars Hill with 19 points while Dawkins added 15 and a team-high six assists and five steals. McIntosh and Hires led the Lions with six rebounds.
Mars Hill closes out the 2024 portion of their season on Wednesday, December 18 when they face UVA Wise on the road. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
