Fox plates six in Lions' 14-3 win over Cavaliers
Walker Fox goes 3-for-4 with 6 RBI in Lions' win.
WISE, Va. - The Mars Hill baseball team (12-29, 5-17 SAC) defeated UVA Wise (23-19, 12-13 SAC) by a score of 14-3 in seven innings to open their series Saturday afternoon.
The Lions used a seven-run second inning to propel themselves to victory. Chapel Matson opened the scoring with a solo home run. Later in the frame, Walker Fox plated two with a single through the right side. Capping off the scoring in the second was Terick Bumgarner's three-run home run.
Mars Hill plated an additional four runs in the third, highlighted by Elec Yount's two-run double.
Fox, after collecting a RBI single in the third, picked up his sixth RBI of the game with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth.
Fox led all players with three hits and six RBI. Matson and Dawson Anderson added two hits apiece while Bumgarner ended the day with three RBI.
Dylan Vega pitched the complete game, striking out four for his second win of the season.
The Lions return to the diamond on Sunday, April 13 to close out the series with a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
