JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. --- Carson-Newman University claimed a 5-2 victory over Tusculum University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action from the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
The 20th-ranked Eagles (13-3, 7-1 SAC) won four of the six singles matches and swept doubles from the Pioneers (11-6, 6-4 SAC), who had a three-match winning streak ended.
The teams opened with singles play, and Carson-Newman went up 1-0 before Tusculum tied it at flight two as Tabitha Howe beat Summer Reeves 6-2, 6-4. The Eagles would go up 2-1 in the match with a win at flight five, but Leonie Floeth rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win at flight three over Violetta Khisamova to tie the match at 2-2. However, the Eagles would win in straight sets at flights four and six to clinch the victory.
In doubles, the Eagles swept the Pioneers though flight three needed a tiebreaker, with Maria Ulloa and Julia Spieser beating Emilie Hansen and Rory Church by a 7-6 (7-3) score.
Tusculum will host its final home match of the 2022 season on Sunday, April 10 against Lincoln Memorial, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
