Johnson knocks down 10 in season finale versus Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (14-12, 11-8 SAC) was defeated 3-0 versus Carson-Newman (20-6, 14-5 SAC) Tuesday night on the road.
With the set tied a 14 all, Carson-Newman reeled off five straight points to take the 19-14 advantage in the first. The Lions roared back into the set, taking seven of the next nine points to tie the game once again. Down set point, back-to-back kills from Sarah Goddard flipped the score in their advantage. However, the Eagles responded with a 3-0 run to steal the first set, 27-25.
The Lions led for a majority of the second set until a Carson-Newman 4-1 run tied the contest up at 18 midway towards the end of the frame. Following a Mars Hill timeout, the Eagles closed out the set on a 7-1 run led by Kendall Cooley's two kills.
An early 4-0 run by the Eagles built up a cushion for the Eagles to expand upon throughout the third and final set to close out the set and earn the season split with the Lions. Carson-Newman hit a game-high .308 in the third set.
Sally Anne Johnson led the Lions with 10 kills while adding a team-high three blocks. Goddard added eight kills and a team-high 16 digs. Jordan Schmucker led Mars Hill with 15 assists.
The Lions take to the road one last time in the regular season on Saturday, November 9 when they face Lincoln Memorial. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
