Trojans Open Conference Slate with Loss to Lenoir-Rhyne

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson baseball team opened its South Atlantic Conference schedule with an 11-3 setback to Lenoir-Rhyne, Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson slipped to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in league play, while Lenoir-Rhyne improved to 11-4 and 1-0 by snapping a two-game skid.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Senior William Thomas notched two of the Trojans' four hits on the night, with freshman Chandler Castleberry hammering a fourth-inning home run over the left-field fence and sophomore Matthew Overton adding a solo homer in the eighth inning.

Senior Andrew Dill (0-1) absorbed the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings of work on the mound. The right-hander struck out four and walked three.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on the strength of a two-out, three-run homer and added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning.

AU got two of the runs back in the bottom of the fourth on Castleberry's second round-tripper of the season and Jackson Strange followed by crossing the plate three batters later.

Lenoir-Rhyne extended its lead to 6-2 with another run in the sixth and built its advantage to 11-2 with a five-run seventh inning.

Overton belted his second home run of the season with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, but the Trojans would get no closer.
