
EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Men's Lacrosse Team (0-11, 0-6 SAC) fell at home in South Atlantic Conference play to No. 7 nationally-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne University (8-2, 3-2 SAC) Saturday afternoon. The Bears tallied eight first-period goals on their way to a 24-3 victory.

How It Happened
- The Bears jumped ahead early as they scored eight goals in the opening period and added a ninth just 45 seconds into the second stanza. The Wasps broke up the run at the 11:02 mark when freshman attacker David Mewes (Greenville, S.C.) found the back of the net unassisted for his fourth goal of the year to make it 9-1. LR would tack on six more scores to hold a 15-1 advantage at the halftime break.
- Lenoir-Rhyne picked up where it left off to start the second half as the Bears recorded four more in the third period to push their lead out to 19-1 heading into the final period. Emory & Henry was first on the scoreboard in the fourth as freshman midfielder Gabe Carter (Kingsport, Tenn.) found freshman attacker Collin Shell (Blountville, Tenn.) who buried a shot past the LR goalie to reduce the deficit to 19-2. The Wasps added another just under a minute later when Carter struck for his second score of the season unassisted to make it 19-3. LR came to life in the final stages of the fourth as they registered the last five goals to take the 24-3 win.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Carter finished with a goal and an assist while Mewes had a goal and three ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Jackson Swanson (Salem, Va.) went for five ground balls and caused a turnover while freshman defender Michael Wyman (Manassas, Va.) caused a team-high three turnovers and vacuumed up three ground balls.
- Freshman faceoff Jaxon Blackshear (Hedgesville, W.Va.) posted a game-high nine ground balls while going 13-for-26 at the faceoff dot. Freshman defender Isaiah Ward (Fredericksburg, Va.) had a pair of caused turnovers and picked up one ground ball.
- Freshman goalie Mason Buttery (Carmel, Ind.) made 19 saves in net to increase his season total to 147, which is good enough to lead the SAC and place him in a tie for third in the country amongst the Division II ranks.
Lenoir-Rhyne Individual Leaders
- Jack Mulligan posted four goals, four assists, five ground balls and caused three turnovers while Peyton Gestole went for four goals, one assist and a ground ball. Cameron Herd finished with two goals, seven assists, five ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
- Zachary Von Garrel made one save in net for the Bears to earn the win.
