Trojans Fend Off Feisty Catawba on Senior Night; 2-1

ANDERSON, S.C. – Behind two first half goals, Anderson University women's soccer was able to fend off feisty South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba winning, 2-1, on Saturday evening at Trojan Stadium.

With the victory, Anderson improves to 4-7-1 overall and 3-4 in conference action while the Indians drop to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in SAC play.

In the third minute of the match, junior Lexxi Longmore gathered a loose ball drilling it past the keeper to put the Trojans up, 1-0.

Freshman Anna Kwiatkowski was able to tack on another goal in the 24th minute after taking a long pass from freshman Gabby Fleming. Kwiatkowski drove a hard ball past the keeper for her first career goal for the Black and Gold.

Down 2-0, the Indians pressed the Trojans the entire second half outshooting Anderson 15-2. Catawba cut the lead in half on a goal in the 58th minute, but could not score again against a determined Trojan squad.

For the match, Catawba outshot Anderson 25-11. The Indians had 10 shots on goal while AU recorded six. The Indians also held a slight, 3-2, advantage in corner kicks. 

Anderson's junior keeper Abby Helm was credited with nine saves on the night with six coming in the second half.

The Trojans hit the road to faceoff with SAC foe Queens on Wednesday. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
