Cavaliers survive late Lions' push
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (6-16, 4-16 SAC) was defeated by UVA Wise (15-8, 12-7 SAC) by a score of 71-66 Wednesday night at home.
The Lions trailed by three with less than 20 seconds on the clock. A costly turnover allowed UVA Wise to sink two free throws at the end of the game to extend their lead to five and survive the Lions' late push.
UVA Wise led by six at the end of the first half, 37-31, following a late surge in the half to take the lead. Lav Cvetkovic' led the team with nine points while Evan Ramsey added seven. Dallas Kendall led the Lions with seven points off the bench. Kadyn Dawkins netted six. Daniel Mayfield led the Lions with four rebounds.
The Lions outscored UVA Wise 35-34 in the final 20 minutes of play, led by Kory Davis' 17 points. He, along with Dawkins, led the team with three rebounds apiece. Dinari Boykin and Kendall Davis added two assists apiece.
Davis led all players with 22 points while Kendall added 11 points. Mayfield, Dawkins, Marvin Hires, and Chase McWhite each pulled down five rebounds while Boykin led the team with two assists and three steals.
Mars Hill takes on Anderson on the road on Saturday, February 15 at 4 p.m.
