
Lions fall to C-N in four

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (7-4, 3-3 SAC) was defeated in four sets (15-25, 25-22, 19-25, 23-25) against Carson-Newman (7-8, 5-2 SAC) Friday night.
The Eagles hit a match-high .294 in the first set with 12 kills while the Lions hit .026. In the second, Mars Hill hit a team-high .195 to tie the match up at one set apiece.
Nine Lions' errors in the third quelled the Mars Hill momentum as Carson-Newman took the frame, 25-19. In a back-and-forth battle in the fourth, the Eagles edged out the Lions with two late points, securing their fifth conference win.
The Eagles hit .170 on the night with Julia Wheeler's 19 kills leading all players. Taylor Adams added 12 kills and a match-high seven aces.
Jada Cannon led the Lions with nine kills followed by Timmons Yates with eight. Jordan Schmucker recorded a double-double with 30 assists and 18 digs while Laela Jimenez led the team with 21 digs.
Mars Hill returns home on Tuesday, October 3 when they host Catawba. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
