Women's Lacrosse Begins Conference Play With A Win Against Mars Hill

Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team comes out on top against the Mars Hill Lions in their first SAC match of the season 14-5.

Lincoln Memorial start the scoring quickly, as Josie Tinnerello scores her first goal of the match with 14:14 remaining, with Amber Kirkpatrick earning the assist. Mars Hill was able to tie up the match with Olson scoring unassisted with 6:57 remaining. The rest of the quarter is all LMU as they score 4 more goals in the first. The Railsplitters take back the lead with 5:00 remaining, with Tinnerello tallies her second goal of the match, unassisted. The Kirkpatrick/Tinnerello duo will connect once again with 4:23 remaining, with Tinnerello posting her third goal of the match and Kirkpatrick recording her second assist. Jalee Davis would register her first goal of the match with 1:59 remaining, with Jaedyn Ryba earning the assist. 20 seconds later with 1:39 remaining, Breanna Booth would score the last goal of the match, unassisted. The score going into the second quarter would be 5-1 with LMU in the lead.

Kirkpatrick would tally the first two goals for LMU in the second quarter in less with 3 minutes of the quarter starting with her scoring her first goal of the match with 14:29 remaining, with Tinnerello tallying her first assist of the match. Kirkpatrick's second goal would be with 12:53 remaining, unassisted. The scoring would continue for Lincoln Memorial as Jaynes records her first goal of the match with Briana Martinez earning her first assist. Minutes later with 10:44 remaining, Tinnerello would record her fourth goal of the match unassisted. The Lions would finally put themselves on the board with Salus (Middleton) scoring with 8:33 remaining. Jaynes would add her second goal of the match with 7:52 remaining, unassisted, and Lainey Hockersmith would record her first goal of the match with 5:20 remaining. Booth would tally the last goal of the quarter with 2:21 remaining, unassisted. The score going into halftime would be 12-2 with the Railsplitters in the lead.

Only one goal would come out of the third quarter, thanks to Jaynes registering her third goal of the match with 2:21 remaining. Lincoln Memorial remains in the lead 13-12 going into the final quarter.

The only goal from Lincoln Memorial in the fourth would come from Ryba with 14:16 remaining, unassisted. The last 3 goals of the match would come from Mars Hill, with Stallings scoring with 12:01 remaining, Cleveland scoring with 4:04 remaining, and Wener scoring with 0:58 remaining. Despite the high scoring quarter from the Lions, Lincoln Memorial extended the lead enough in the first half to gesture the lead 14-5.

Tinnerello would lead the match in points with 5, accounting for 4 goals and 5 assists, with Kirkpatrick 1 point behind her with 4, which includes 2 goals and 2 assists. With the win, LMU improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the South Atlantic Conference.
