Mars Hill opens series with Limestone
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (10-23, 4-12 SAC) was defeated by Limestone (15-18, 9-10 SAC) by a score of 14-3 Friday afternoon in their series opener.
The Lions led after the first, 1-0, off of a Peyton Starkey RBI groundout that plated Elec Yount.
The Saints responded in the second, scoring four, highlighted by Peter Adams' two-run single. In the fourth, the Saints grew their lead to five off of Adams Faucett's two-run single.
Terick Bumgarner, in the bottom of the fourth, blasted a solo home run to pull Mars Hill within four. It was the first of two solo home runs off of his bat.
Leading 10-3 entering the seventh, Limestone tacked on four more runs to close out game one in seven innings.
Zach Greenberg led all players with four hits while the duo of Faucett and Ben Patridge led all players with three RBI. Bumgarner led the Lions with two RBI while he, and Yount, led the team with two hits apiece.
Mars Hill faces the Saints on Saturday, March 29 at 12 p.m. in game one of the doubleheader.
