Trojans Roll Past Northwood for Second Straight Win

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Anderson University volleyball team wrapped up action at Cedarville's Yellow Jacket Invite by shutting out Northwood, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-18) Saturday afternoon at the Callan Athletic Center.

"We played well today after a bit of a slow morning start," said Anderson head coach Todd Hay. "Our middles had a good day since their block was keying on Maya and Taylor in transition. Once we adjusted to their back row attacks and were able to slow down their middles, I felt like we had a good shot at the win. Overall, we are very pleased with the weekend's results and what we learned about ourselves moving forward."

Anderson improved to 2-1 on the season with its second straight win, while Northwood fell to 0-3.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Junior Regan Duty led all players with a season-high 11 kills, while senior middle blocker Hailee Wilhelm added a season-best nine kills behind a .471 hitting percentage and posted a pair of block assists. Sophomores Hannah Worsham and Maya Learmonth recorded seven kills and six kills, respectively. Senior setter Emily Conlin posted AU's first double-double of the season, with 33 assists and 14 digs. The freshman duo of Lindsay McCurley and Alexandra Petrilli combined for eight service aces on the day, with both players chipping in nine digs. Sophomore libero Meghan DeVaux notched a match-high 16 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
After four early ties, the Trojans reeled off four unanswered points to claim a quick 8-4 advantage. The Timberwolves stayed within three and knotted the score at 10 apiece and used a 5-2 spurt to take their largest lead of the frame.

The Trojans rallied back to even the score at 16-16, and following four more ties, a kill from Duty powered AU to a lead it would not surrender as the Black and Gold closed the set by scoring the final five points.

Second Set
AU snapped an early 3-3 deadlock with an 8-4 scoring outburst that included a pair of aces from Petrilli and the Trojans held at least a five-point lead the rest of the way.

Third Set
Just as in the second frame, the Trojans snapped an early 4-4 tie with three consecutive scores and didn't look back.

AU claimed its largest lead at 20-13 and matched that margin on three more occasions, including the final margin.
