MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (14-24, 4-14 SAC) was swept by Wingate (41-6, 19-1 SAC) by scores of 5-1 and 9-0 Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE: WU 5, MHU 1
Savanna Brooks hit two home runs in the Bulldogs' 5-1 game one win, recording three RBI. She, along with Ragan Liles led the team with two hits apiece.
Jessica Senn led the Lions with two hits and broke the Wingate shutout bid in the bottom of the seventh, blasting a solo home run.
The Lions had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but Wingate was able to work their way out of the predicament, holding on to the 5-1 edge for the win.
GAME TWO: WU 9, MHU 0 - 6 Innings
Wingate's Sydney Kale threw a no-hitter in game two, striking out 10 to complete the sweep.
Savanna Brooks, like in game one, hit two home runs for a game-high three RBI. Sydney Kale recorded two doubles on the day, driving in three runs.
At the conclusion of game two, seniors Zoie Pistel, Micki Maxson, Miranda Marks, Peyton Duba, and Kayla Gallagher were recognized and celebrated for their contributions to the program.
Mars Hill returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 16 when they face Carolina University. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Ponder Field.
