Lions remarkable season wraps up at SAC Quarterfinals
ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Mars Hill women's basketball team put up a determined fight in their SAC Tournament matchup against Anderson, but a late surge by the Trojans handed the Lions an 80-73 loss on Wednesday night at the Rock Hill Sports & Events Center.
The game was tightly contested throughout, with Mars Hill (17-12, 14-10 SAC) holding leads at multiple points, including a strong second quarter where they outscored Anderson 24-19 to take a 37-35 halftime advantage.
The Lions' defensive intensity and rebounding gave them momentum early, but Anderson (22-9, 17-7 SAC) responded in the second half. The game remained close heading into the fourth quarter, but Anderson's ability to convert on key possessions and knock down late free throws ultimately secured the win.
Mars Hill saw standout performances from Aaliyah El, who led the team with 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists, and Tateyoina Harris, who dominated the boards with 14 rebounds while adding nine points. Lauren Arnold contributed 12 points and six rebounds, while Elyseia Brown chipped in 11 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Despite their efforts, Anderson's Zamiya Passmore proved to be the difference-maker, finishing with a game-high 33 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Trojans' offense in the clutch moments.
The Lions showed their strengths in several areas, winning the battle in points off turnovers (20-14) and receiving 21 points from their bench, but Anderson's fast-break attack (22 points) and late-game execution helped them pull away.
