HOW IT HAPPENED

Innings 1-3

Etheridge helped his own cause in the top of the first as he put the Saints on top with a solo shot, his second of the year. The Bulldogs plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, but the Blue and Gold responded with a little two-out magic in the next at-bat to move back in front, 6-2.

With two runners on and two gone in the second, Lowery tied the game with an RBI double down the leftfield chalk before back-to-back errors allowed two more runs to score. Allen followed with an RBI single before freshman Trace Whetsell (Gilbert, S.C.) capped the four-run frame with an RBI base knock.

Innings 4-6

Limestone would extend the lead in the top of the fifth as Creps launched a leadoff homerun over the rightfield fence to make it a 7-2 ballgame. However, Wingate would use a leadoff blast of its own in the home half of the fifth to spark a three-run rally.

In the sixth, Allen won a 10-pitch at-bat with a massive solo homerun to left-center as the Saints moved in front, 8-5. He fouled off five straight pitches during the sequence before connecting on his 16th homerun of the year, but Wingate would push across four runs over the next two innings to even the affair at 8-all.

Innings 7-10

Creps got onboard with a single to start the ninth for the Blue and Gold, and then put himself in scoring position with a one-out steal of second. With two outs, Shepherd came through in the clutch as he put Limestone back on top, 9-8, with a go-ahead, RBI single to center.

In the bottom of the ninth, Wingate put the tying and winning runs on base to start the frame, but it appeared Byrd might wiggle out of the jam as recorded a huge strikeout followed by a fielder's choice. With two outs, however, a blooper down the leftfield line would tie the game and force extras.

The first two batters were retired quietly for Limestone in the 10th, but Allen launched his second homerun of the night over the left-centerfield wall on a 1-0 count. The Bulldogs brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom half, but Mullinax was able to work around a leadoff single to preserve the win.

TURNING POINT

Allen's second homerun of the evening, a two-out solo shot in the top of the 10th, proved to be the difference as Limestone was able to hold off a late rally by the Bulldogs.
