
Mars Hill sweeps EHC on Senior Day
The Mars Hill volleyball team (17-7, 12-4 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry (4-22, 3-13 SAC) in three sets (25-13, 25-17, 25-11) Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (17-7, 12-4 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry (4-22, 3-13 SAC) in three sets (25-13, 25-17, 25-11) Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium.
Mars Hill rolled through the first set, hitting .438 in the frame with Jada Cannon's five kills leading the way. The Lions held the Wasps to a -.028 hitting percentage.
The teams, tied at seven in the second, went on a 6-2 run to pull away from Emory & Henry. The Lions led 19-16 later in the frame before closing out the set on a 6-0 run to enter the third up by two sets.
The Lions closed out the match in the third, hitting .385 and forcing the Wasps to hit -.108, causing 11 errors.
Sarah Goddard and Jana Cuk led the Lions with 11 kills apiece followed by eight from Cannon. Cuk hit .625 on the day followed by Nikkayla Stewart's .467 as she knocked down seven kills on 15 swings with no errors.
Jordan Schmucker amassed 40 assists while Laela Jimenez led all players with 23 digs.
Prior to the start of the contest, Sarah Goddard, Eloise Rique, Jana Cuk, Jordan Schmucker, Allison Raines, Grace Lilly, and Susan Reinders were all recognized on Senior Day for their contributions to the team over their time with the program.
The Lions host Newberry on Tuesday, November 1 with first serve set for 6 p.m.
