GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Jeremy Glore went 2-for-5 including his walk-off single in the 11th inning in Tusculum's 7-6 South Atlantic Conference baseball win over Newberry Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Park.
The Pioneers (13-8, 6-3 SAC) sweep the three-game weekend series over the Wolves (12-12, 2-4 SAC) and record their fourth consecutive win.
Tusculum's Nick Lacina led all hitters going 4-for-5 with a RBI to extend his hitting streak to eight in a row. Edison Cabrera continued his hot-hitting by going 3-for-6 including his team-leading seventh double of the year.
With the score tied 6-6 in the bottom of the 11th, Cole Baxley led off inning with walk. He later moved to second base on a passed ball. Newberry pitcher Tyler Fuhr looked to be working out of the jam as he got a fly out center field and another to NBY first baseman Trejon Smith as he made an over the shoulder catch in foul territory. But his momentum carried him away from the infield, which allowed Baxley to tag up and move to third. With two outs, Glore stepped up and lined a single up the middle to bring him Baxley with the winning score.
Newberry jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Ben Herring hit a two-out single. Tusculum answered in the fourth inning with a pair of runs off of Newberry starter Josh Stempihar. Lacina led off with a single and later scored on Daulton Martin's two-hit triple. Martin would score the go-ahead run on Baxley's single to left.
The Wolves scored five unearned runs over the next two innings thanks to four Tusculum errors, including three TC miscues in a three-run sixth inning as Newberry led 6-2.
Tusculum answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth and tied the game with three runs in the seventh, including a RBI double from Frankie Valle, a Colby Skeen sacrifice fly and a Lacina two-out single to tie the game at 6-6.
Tusculum pitcher Christian Raasch took over the top of the eighth and tossed four shutout innings and retired seven in row, including in order in the ninth and 10th innings. In the top of the 11th, Newberry's Tommy Passerello led off with a single up the middle. After bunt moved him to second, Raasch got a fly out for the second out of the inning. He fell behind in the count to Daymon Totherow, including a wild pitch to move Passerello to third with the potential go-ahead run. Totherow was intentionally walked and Raasch got the final out of the inning with a ground out to get out of trouble and set the table for the 11th-inning heroics.
Raasch picked up the victory to improve to 1-3 on the season, while also remaining undefeated against Newberry for his career (3-0) with his third win.
The Pioneers finished the game with 15 hits as Martin and Baxley also posted multiple-hit performances for the home team. Newberry totaled nine hits, including three from Totherow and two from O'Kevius Conway.
Tusculum continues its home-stand on Tuesday when they host in-state foe King University at 5 p.m.
