
Lions fall in season finale versus Pacers

AIKEN, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (1-2) was defeated in their weekend series finale versus USC Aiken (2-1) by a score of 7-5 Sunday afternoon.
Mars Hill opened the scoring in the top of the first as Walker Fox's sacrifice fly plated Jackson Jones. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Blake Russell drew a walk that plated Elec Yount.
The Pacers tied the contest at two after one and in the bottom of the second, a RBI groundout put them ahead, 3-2. Terick Bumgarner's RBI single tied the contest in the top of the third, scoring Chapel Matson, but the Pacers responded in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run to retake the lead.
Matson and Max LaLime each recorded RBI singles in the sixth, putting the Lions ahead 5-4. Once again, USC Aiken answered with a two-run double down the right field line to go up 6-5. After a scoreless seventh, the Pacers added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to seal the series win.
Yount led all players with three hits while Jones led the Lions with two runs scored.
The Lions return to action on Tuesday, February 4 when they face Belmont Abbey on the road. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
