
FERRUM, Va. – The Emory & Henry Women's Lacrosse Team (2-4) took down former Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Ferrum College (2-2) in non-conference play Wednesday afternoon. The Wasps stormed back from a deficit to outscore the Panthers 4-0 in the final period to earn the 9-7 victory.

How It Happened
- Sophomore attacker Avery McHargue (Weaverville, N.C.) opened the scoring at the 8:49 mark of the first period when she received a pass from sophomore attacker/midfielder Bethany Beecher (Roanoke, Va.) and slotted a shot past the goalie for the 1-0 lead. After a Ferrum goal tied the game, freshman midfielder Whitney Holland (Rocky Mount, Va.) got her name on the score sheet with a goal on an assist from senior attacker Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.) to put the Wasps up 2-1. Ferrum would score another goal to level the score at 2-2 after one period of play. The Panthers recorded the lone goal of the second period and took a narrow 3-2 advantage into the half.
- FC scored the first three goals of the third period to push their lead out to 6-2, but the visitors from Emory would not go down without a fight. Junior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) got the Wasps back on the board with a free-position goal at the 5:46 mark and McHargue followed with an unassisted tally 40 seconds later to reduce the deficit to 6-4. Ferrum scored the next goal, but McHargue scored with just over a minute remaining in the third period on an assist from freshman midfielder Alex Costello (Johnson City, Tenn.) to draw back within two at 7-5 heading into the final period. Beecher got the ball rolling to start the fourth as she scored on an assist from freshman midfielder Madison Stewart (Blacksburg, Va.) at the 11:46 mark. Hicks recorded another goal just under 40 seconds later as she scored unassisted a player down to tie the game at 7-7. Jones gave the Wasps the lead with 7:52 left on the clock on an assist from Costello and Holland put the finishing touches on the win with a goal at the 4:42 mark to run the score to its final at 9-7.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- McHargue led the way offensively for the Wasps with three goals on six shots while adding one ground ball and causing a turnover. Jones and Holland each added a pair of goals, while Jones had four ground balls, three caused turnovers and a draw control.
- Sophomore midfielder Natalie Harris (Hillsville, Va.) scooped up three ground balls and caused three turnovers while Stewart finished with three caused turnovers, two draw controls, one ground balls and an assist.
- Junior goalie Kaitlyn Evans posted three saves and grabbed four ground balls while causing one turnover to earn the win in net.
Ferrum Individual Leaders
- Maggie Cass and Lana Barcovic each had a pair of goals for the Panthers. Caroline Kelley, Micaiyah Dickerson and Ashtyn Bishop all registered one goal for Ferrum in the loss.
- Cayden West made 13 saves, picked up two ground balls and forced a turnover in goal.
