
Mars Hill shuts out Southern Wesleyan to open Bobcat Battle
The Mars Hill softball team (2-5) blanked Southern Wesleyan (2-8) by a score of 9-0 in five innings Friday evening to open up tournament play at the Bobcat Battle.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Mars Hill softball team (2-5) blanked Southern Wesleyan (2-8) by a score of 9-0 in five innings Friday evening to open up tournament play at the Bobcat Battle.
Following a scoreless first inning, the Lions opened the scoring in the bottom off of a Maia Sholter two-run double that scored Miranda Marks and Farley Park.
The Lions padded their lead with four runs in the third, highlighted by Alyssa Poston's RBI triple. Both Marks and Amber McLaren added RBI singles while Sholter earned her third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly that scored Marks for her second run of the game.
Mars Hill tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, plating two off of a Southern Wesleyan error and scoring their final run of the game off of a Zoie Pistel RBI groundout.
Marks led all players with two hits while Sholter led all players with three RBI.
Rebekah Howard was dominant on the mound, striking out nine and allowing just three hits in five innings of play for her first collegiate win.
The Lions rematch with Southern Wesleyan on Saturday, February 18 at 1:30 p.m. in their first game of the afternoon. They'll wrap up the day at 6:30 p.m. versus Converse.
