SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (6-7, 2-6 SAC) was defeated by Catawba (6-7, 2-4 SAC) by a score of 14-12 Saturday afternoon on the road.
A 3-1 third quarter by the Indians proved to the be difference in the conference clash as Catawba led 9-7 going into the final 15 minutes of play.
Both teams scored five goals in the final frame with the Lions netting three in the final 2:38 of play with tallies coming from Tiffany Saavedra, Kiersten Foust, and Maria Fabrizio.
Catawba opened the game scoring three straight with two goals from Joey Baillie. Mars Hill responded by scoring three straight in the final 5:54 as Foust, Sydney Joyce, and Alexa Tazzetta scored.
The teams traded goals in the second, scoring three apiece. Tazzetta, Fabrizio, and Haley Stallings scored the Lions' goals.
Caroline Falcone led all players with five points (3g, 2a). Joyce (3g, 1a) and Fabrizio (2g, 2a) led the Lions with four points apiece.
The Lions take on Newberry on Saturday, April 16 in their final road game of the season. First draw control is set for 1 p.m.
