MHU holds off Pioneers for thrilling win
Kory Davis hits three in final seconds to secure win.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (7-17, 5-17 SAC) defeated Tusculum (6-19, 6-15 SAC) by a score of 66-61 Wednesday night inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Lions led by two with less than a minute to play. Tusculum, with 36 seconds left in play, attempted to tie the game with a layup, but the ball was swatted away by a key block from Marvin Hires. Advancing down the court and running the shot clock down to the final seconds, Kory Davis hit the final bucket of the contest, a deep three to seal the win.
Mars Hill led by three, 36-33, at the half. A balanced scoring attack saw the trio of Hires, Dinari Boykin, and Dallas Kendall each net eight points apiece while Kadyn Dawkins added seven. Kendall led the Lions with four rebounds in the frame.
The Lions shot 50 percent from beyond the arc, hitting four threes. Hires drained two while Davis and Dawkins netted the other two in the half.
In the second half, Davis led the Lions with 10 points and three rebounds. Kendall added six points while Dawkins and Daniel Mayfield each netted four.
Kendall led four Lions in double-digit scoring with 14 points. Davins scored 13, hitting all three three-pointers attempted while Dawkins ended the night with 11 points. Hires chipped in with 10 points and led all players with three blocks. Davis and Kendall also led the team with six rebounds apiece.
The Lions wrap up their 2024-25 home schedule on Saturday, February 22 when they host Catawba. Senior Day tipoff is set for 4 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
