Trojans Head into Christmas Break with Solid Victory over Tusculum; 71-50

Anderson, S.C. – The Anderson University women's basketball team used solid defense and a couple of big runs to put away South Atlantic Conference opponent Tusculum; 71-50 on Monday evening at the Abney Center.

With the win, Anderson improves to 8-2 overall and sits at 5-1 in the conference while Tusculum drops to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the SAC.

The Trojans were led by senior Jasmine Franklin's season high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting and 4-of-5 from the free throw line while also grabbing a team high seven rebounds and dishing out three assists. Senior Heather Jankowy added 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor and 4-of-8 from behind the arc with freshman Madison Baggett rounding out the double digit scorers with 11 points. Baggett also contributed to the Trojans victory by pulling down six rebounds, dishing out four assists and adding five steals to her solid night. Sophomore Tamia Eatmon and freshman Makayla Green came off the bench, chipping in eight points apiece for the Black and Gold.

The Pioneers were led by sophomore Kasey Johnson's career high 25 points and team high 10 rebounds. Johnson's point total equaled the rest of the team's combined total of 25 points. Anderson forced 23 Tusculum turnovers resulting in 29 points on the night.

Anderson enjoyed two runs that kept the Pioneers at bay. The first coming at the start of the second period (14-2) and the second run (14-0) beginning at the end of the third period and lasting until 1:12 remaining in the game.

Head Coach Jonathon Barbaree's Thoughts: "I am happy to get the win, especially on such a quick turnaround. We played hard all game and shot well from behind the arc. We still have a lot of team goals to meet and to reach them we need to work hard during the break on our own."

-Anderson outrebounded (37-32) its opponent for the eighth time this season.
-Jankowy's four three point basket moves the senior into the sixth slot for all-time made 3-pointers in program history.
-Jankowy also moved into the seventh spot for career assists with 252.
- Baggett has scored in double figures 5-out-6 conference games.
- The Trojans held the Pioneers to 1-of-10 shooting from behind the arc.
-Anderson is 11-2 against Tusculum in SAC regular-season games, 6-1 at home and 5-1 on the road.
-The Trojans had not won a game that ended the calendar year since defeating Claflin 70-52 on Dec. 18, 2006.

Anderson does not return to action until the New Year when it travels to Brevard on Wednesday, Jan. 4 for a SAC matchup. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
